Head of Corporate Communications

CafeMedia is seeking a Head of Corporate Communications to drive the development of holistic and strategically driven communications and narrative for the company. This role will report into the CMO and be directly responsible for developing the strategic narrative, devising and implementing a communications plan that builds the company's profile, thought leadership, and brand reputation with multiple audiences, including industry, creators/publishers, partners, advertisers, consumers, and employees. The Head of Corporate Communications & Public Relations will be the primary interface with the media and work in collaboration with the AdThrive and CafeMedia teams. 

The successful candidate will: 

  • Lead the company's strategic narrative for the company, key initiatives, and product launches, working collaboratively with internal stakeholders
  • Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications platform and plan that drives CafeMedia's strategic narrative, sharpens its positioning and brand identity, broadens awareness, builds brand reputation and increases the exposure of CafeMedia's key brand and value propositions, and advocating for independent creators/publishers across organizations and regulatory bodies
  • Create unique insight-led narratives, infographics, and storylines leveraging CafeMedia's tremendous volume of data across traffic and revenue metrics - publisher level, category information, company-wide, and competitive 
  • Position CafeMedia as a thought leader and the leader in developing a creator-first future on the open web
  • Oversee development of all CafeMedia external communications initiatives, including but not limited to press releases, thought leadership, webinars, speaking opportunities, external stakeholder communication/outreach, brand and customer-focused communications, and social media engagement
  • Prioritize media and speaking opportunities, and develop the appropriate PR tools (talking points, speeches, events/presentations, bylines, blog posts, case studies, white papers/insights, webinars, corporate social responsibility, and other supporting material as needed)
  • Develop the strategy content plan for and manage the CafeMedia corporate blog
  • Continuously monitor the industry press and keep internal stakeholders abreast and ensure coverage and inclusion as appropriate
  • Help to develop the company's corporate social responsibility and policy platforms, messaging, and plans
  • Leverage and work collaboratively with CafeMedia's leadership to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted, high-level external audiences, including the media and key influencers 
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to identify internal and external communications opportunities/solutions, and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them 
  • Serve as communications counselor to CafeMedia's leadership, preparing them for media, public speaking, and other external opportunities
  • Build out the Corporate Communications & PR practice and team
  • Oversee the daily functions of the Corporate Communications and PR function, including budgeting, planning, and people development/management (as applicable)
  • Manage CafeMedia's relationships with the appropriate PR agencies, external partners/vendors, and press

What you'll bring to the team:

  • Minimum 10-15 years experience in corporate communication and PR role required
  • Demonstrated success in the Publishing, Media, or Advertising industry is required
  • Prior experience in media relations role with ad tech, independent creators/publishers, or technology is strongly preferred 
  • A proven track record for successfully crafting narratives, messaging strategies and comprehensive communications and media relations strategies and plans to build a company's brand reputation across key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated skill in proactively building relationships with top tier reporters and editors, and in successfully positioning subject matter with the media to achieve high-impact placements across print, broadcast, and digital 
  • Strong pre-existing media contacts with targeted business, advertising, tech, and industry journalists a plus
  • Strong cross-functional team management skills and leadership/people management skills required
  • Deep understanding of the advertising and technology industry
  • Ability to leverage data and insights to build unique narratives and storylines
  • Savvy, strategic thinker who has experience utilizing traditional and non-traditional communications strategies and technology
  • Demonstrated excellence in written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and track record of effectively interfacing with senior management, Board of Directors, and staff 
  • Experience of building and leading, inspiring, and developing high-performance communications teams
  • Strategic ability to help shape where CafeMedia goes as a business with a collaborative, thoughtful style
